Le Castelou, which means "little castle" in Occitan, was the creation of Gui, duc de Lévis-Mirepoix in the 1880s. As a member of one of the premier aristocratic families of France, Gui needed a suitable residence while renovating the vast Chateau of Léran. So he joined two old village houses together and added a sumptuous gallery with specially designed stained glass windows.
Our guests can still experience the artistry of this grand entertaining space and perhaps savour the France of an era past. Local legend has it that, in due course, Le Castelou became the residence of the duke’s mistress.
